September 16th 9:00-11:00 am: Insects
We will go into both the prairie and pond in search of insects at the preserve. We will learn about the insect body parts and unique lifecycles. Bring rain boots or water shoes that can get muddy.
September 30th 9:00-11:00 am: Grossology
Grossology is all about the ooey goey. We will turn over logs, dig in the mud, and search for creepy crawlies throughout the preserve, learning about their adaptations.
October 14th 9:00-11:00 am: Trees & Bees
Learn about two very important species at the preserve, trees and bees! We will learn more about trees and why their leaves change colors and the important role bees play in our ecosystem.
October 28th 9:00-11:00 am: Owls
In this session, we will explore the world of owls and their adaptations. We will learn what makes them special and dissect owl pellets to discover what they eat. This program will finish off with a hike in search of owl signs.
November 11th 9:00-11:00 am: Skins, Bones, and Unknowns
We will become wildlife biologists as we investigate the animals that can be found at the preserve. By looking at animal pelts, skulls, tracks, and scat, we will discover clues that can help identify common Wisconsin animals while on a hike through the preserve.
November 25th 9:00-11:00 am: Outdoor Survival
Put your survival skills to the test! We will learn the basics of outdoor survival and then work together in small groups to build shelters and warming fires.
December 9th 9:00-11:00 am: Homes & Habitats
Learn where animals go in the winter months. We will search the prairies, ponds, and forests for animal homes large and small. Then build our own “animal homes” out of nature!
